Gastronomy
In Madrid you can find all of the different types of Spanish foods, along with a great selection of international cuisine.
If you are visiting Madrid in the winter, try its cocido madrileño (Madrid's classic chickpea stew), which provides a good example of how the traditional Spanish stew has evolved over time. Madrid also is the proud home of the oldest restaurant in the world, Casa Botín, founded in 1725, which offers typical Castilian food, and the speciality of the house is roast pork.
Madrid is also famous for its tapas, which add a unique touch to its culinary offering. In many bars, taverns and terraces in the city, you can just about dine out on the light complementary snacks that come with each round of drinks, while enjoying an informal, fun atmosphere.
